In-plane pipe whip: Post-failure dynamic response

چکیده

Pressurised pipes are ubiquitous in chemical, nuclear and power plants. A sudden failure release of high-speed fluid cause large inelastic displacements characterised by a whipping-type motion, which can ultimately hinder the surrounding structural functional systems. In this paper, beam user element has been developed, implemented applied to analyse in-plane flexural dynamic response pipe whip. The two-dimensional Euler–Bernoulli is based on corotational kinematic formulation elastoplastic constitutive models that include metal plasticity moment–curvature relationships obtained from numerical bending tests, highlighted existence two new dimensionless groups govern slender enable creation master curves for thick thin pipes. compared against an analytical rigid-perfectly plastic model, simulations employing shell elements available experimental results, showing very good accuracy prediction deformation whip its hazardous area influence. Furthermore, parametric studies performed investigate effect load intensity, cross-sectional geometry concentrated tip mass post-failure modes, hinge formation extension hazard zone. presented results represent valid tools assess safety industrial piping systems undergoing failure, optimally design restraints.

On Finite Element Analysis of Pipe Whip Problems

The nonlinear dynamic finite element solution of pipe whip problems is presented. The finite element modelling used, the step-by-step incremental solution of the nonlinear equations of motion and design considerations are discussed. The influence of various physical parameters on the response of the pipe and the restraint, and the effects of using different finite element models are considered....

Dynamic response of biofilm to pipe surface and fluid velocity.

Biofouling in pipelines is a function of the inner roughness of the specific piping material that is used in distribution systems and the concomitant biofilm formation. To test the effect of velocity on the growth of biofilm, a Roto-Scope was designed and built to imitate different materials and flow conditions in potable water distribution systems. Biofilm formation was monitored using DAPI st...

Waterhammer Caused by Intermittent Pump Failure in Pipe Systems Including Parallel Pump Groups

The use of pumps linked in parallel or series in large scale pipe systems is usually inevitable, to meet the required head and discharge. Transient flow occurs following a pump failure in a pump group as a result of variations in the flow rate. This research is an investigation about waterhammer caused by one or more pump-switch off in a pump group when they are connected in parallel. The opera...

Hypotensive response after resistance exercise leading to failure and not to failure in trained men

Hypertension is epidemic disease which post-exercise hypotension (PEH) is useful strategies for hypertension. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of resistance exercise leading to failure (REF) and resistance exercise not to failure (NREF) on PEH phenomenon in trained men. Eight trained men (age: 22.12±1.81 yr; height: 179±3.44 cm; weight: 73.82±4.29 kg;...
